Adkins' side face first league defeat of new season

Nigel Adkins' Tranmere Rovers have suffered a 3 - 0 away defeat to Gillingham today (14.09.2024).

How the match unfolded

Tranmere Rovers travelled to the Priestfield Stadium to play Gillingham in match-week 6 of EFL League Two.

Rovers kept the match goalless by half-time, despite Gillingham's pressure. However, the second 45' didn't go as-well.

Gillingham's 27 year-old Armani Little opened the scoring just the 48th minuet of play, giving the hosts a 1 - 0 advantage.

Just 13 minuets later, The Gills Nathan Coleman was sent off as he received his second yellow card of the fixture. Gillingham were down to 10 players with just under 30 minuets of the 90 to play.

In the 82nd minuet, 23 year-old Gillingham substitution Jayden Clarke doubled the hosts lead.

With the match at 2 - 0, Rovers only had 8 minuets of normal time to find some goals.

The Gills scored a third in the 89th minuet of play, once again by Jayden Clarke. The goal made it 3 - 0 to Gillingham.

Despite the 8 minuets of additional-time, Rovers couldn't find the back of Gillingham's net, and it ended Gillingham 3 - 0 Tranmere Rovers.

The result

The fixture was Tranmere's first defeat of the 2024/25 EFL League Two campaign. Rovers had a strong showing in the first-half, but the same can't be said for the second.

Despite the full-time score, though, Rovers had more of the ball. Gillingham had 37% possession, to Tranmere's 63%.
